Pumpkin Patch Fun at McClelland Dairy

October 29th, 2011 | Category: Local Activites and Events, Sonoma County Activities

This is the last weekend to join in the fun at McClelland Dairy in Petaluma.

McClelland’s Dairy becomes McClelland’s Pumpkin Patch from 10am-6pm, Saturdays and Sundays. With three acres of pumpkins to pick from you can find one that is just your size… from mini pumpkins to giant pumpkins. Free admission includes a visit to the pumpkin patch, petting farm animals and watching cows being milked in the parlor. Not only will you find cows here but our farm also has goats and chickens! There is also a farm store featuring other products produced on the farm like free range eggs, European Style Organic Artisan Butter and Lavender.

One of Petaluma’s best restaurants, Water Street Bistro, is providing some delicious snacks and lunch and there is also goat cheese from Two Rock Valley’s Don and Bonnie Debemardi, organic ice cream from Three Twins and a selection of other local purveyors selling their products. McClelland’s delicious butter and eggs will also be available for purchase.

A good time for all!

CA Cheese Trip Guides!

October 21st, 2011 | Category: Activities, Sonoma County Activities

Wow — Just saw this article from The Lonely Planet….an overview of Cheese Tours in Northern CA…including specific tours in Pt. Reyes and Tomales, as well as Sebastopol and Petaluma.    Yum!

If you’ve never been on a cheese tour, this is an excellent opportunity during your trip to Bodega Bay.  They are all within 1/2 hour from “At the Bay’s Edge” and it’s great fun to learn how cheese is made, and of course sample, sample, sample.  We have an abundance of great food here, and of course the cheese is one of my favorite things about this area!

Sonoma County Art Trails October 15-16 and 22-23 2011

October 14th, 2011 | Category: Activities, Sonoma County Activities

ARTrails is an annual fall tradition in the North Bay and Sonoma County.  It’s a juried art program, which is not only Sonoma County’s highest profile art event, but it’s also one of the longest running programs and most respected in its class.  Come check it out and see why!

ARTrails provides a rare opportunity for the public to meet local artists in their workspaces, view original art, and learn firsthand about their diverse creative processes and techniques.

This year, ArtTrails has posted artist videos on their YouTube Channel.  You can get a preview of their work here:

Through hands-on demonstrations as well as intimate conversations, ARTrails artists will take you into their world, where colors, shapes, materials, and textures merge into unique and collectible works of art.

Sonoma Bakeries

September 28th, 2011 | Category: Bodega Bay Activities, Restaurants in Bodega Bay & the Sonoma Coast

Ahhhh….one of my favorite subjects.  BREAD!

Of course I’m biased, the Wild Flour Bread down the road in Freestone is hands-down my favorite.  I think I could live on the Fougasse (gouda, onions, mushrooms, olives, red pepper) and they have a great variety of dinner breads and breakfast breads for everyone.  I love eating the bread still warm, and they have a beautiful garden with lots of benches and chairs to just sit out and enjoy the moment.  You should definitely check it out at least once when you come to Bodega Bay!

For those of you venturing further out, here’s a great article from Inside Sonoma that I just saw on top Bakeries in Sonoma.    We are so fortunate in this area to have an abundance of great food…so enjoy!

The Birds in Bodega Bay – At Doran Beach!

September 7th, 2011 | Category: Bodega Bay Videos - At the Bay's Edge and Beyond!, Wildlife in Bodega Bay

Bodega Bay Realty put together a great video montage of the birds at Doran Beach in Bodega Bay that I thought you would enjoy seeing.

I love walking over at Doran because there’s always an abundance of wildlife, including the gulls and sandpipers that you see here.  Doran Beach is just a five minute drive from “At the Bay’s Edge” and is popular not only for bird watching, but as an access point for kayaking, boogie boarding, kite flying, beach combing, and of course, just hanging out!

Bodega Bay Farmer’s Market

September 4th, 2011 | Category: Bodega Bay Activities, Sonoma County Activities

Great News!    Bodega Bay is getting it’s own Farmer’s Market, starting on September 4th.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. you can load up on field fresh produce on the Bodega Bay Community Center grounds near the Nicholas Green Children’s Bell Tower on Coast Highway 1. It will continue on Sunday’s from 10-1 through the 30th of October.

Here’s a full list of some of my favorite Sonoma County Farmer’s Markets.   We are very fortunate to have an abundance of fresh & delicious food here on the coast….and I really enjoy the environment of the Farmer’s Markets….can’t wait to visit this new one!

A Taste of Mexico in Valley Ford!

September 3rd, 2011 | Category: Restaurants in Bodega Bay & the Sonoma Coast

Rocker Oysterfeller’s has gone a little further south as “Noches Mexicanas” will keep Rocker Oysterfeller’s Kitchen + Saloon buzzing seven days a week by offering Mexican Cuisine on the historically shuttered Monday and Tuesday nights.

During Noches Mexicanas, the bar will be serving up a variety of Margaritas including the ‘Sandia’ made from fresh watermelon juice with a sprig of mint.  Tequila flights will be offered with a nightly showcase of three selected tequila either in a vertical flight (different tequilas from a single distiller) or a horizontal flight (one style of tequila from three different producers).

Noches Mexicanas will run from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday and Tuesday nights.  The menu of Rocker Oysterfeller’s will be served Wednesday through Sunday.

See the full menu at www.rockeroysterfellers.com.
Valley Ford is just a 10 minute drive from Bodega Bay.

Bird Watching in Bodega Bay

August 31st, 2011 | Category: Wildlife in Bodega Bay

Birding is one of the most popular activities in Bodega Bay, in fact the Madrone Audobon Society lists Bodega Bay as the best birding spot in Sonoma County.   I love low tide here “At the Bay’s Edge” because I enjoy watching the heron and sandpipers hunt.  It’s fascinating to watch the process of stalking, it’s quite intense.

Here’s a recent picture I took right from my deck.

We do have binoculars and birding books in both of our rentals for your convenience and enjoyment, so come watch the Birds in Bodega Bay!
