Salmon Creek Artwalk November 7-8, 2009

November 3rd, 2009 | Category: Activities, Local Activites and Events

The Salmon Creek Artwalk is one of my favorites….as local and guest artists open their studios in Salmon Creek (just a mile north of Bodega Bay) to highlight a variety of art including sculpture, painting, wearable art, photography, stained glass, and copper.

The Salmon Creek Artwalk was established in 2001 and has become an anticipated Sonoma Coast art event. Take this opportunity to enjoy the artists work, and stroll through the unique town of Salmon Creek, and enjoy the Salmon Creek beach as well!

Enjoy!

October 26th, 2009 | Category: Bodega Bay Activities, Local Activites and Events

Everyone’s excited about the crab season opening on November 7th. So many great places in town to eat crab, as well as buy live crab and enjoy it at home. And yes, we have crab pots for you here “At the Bay’s Edge”!!

Here’s some local resources for you to enjoy crab!

Spud Point Crab Company
: They have their own crab boat, and serve deli style. They’re located right across from Spud Pointe Marina.

Lucas Wharf: Dine in or buy fresh from the boats at the fish market!

Island Deli: Deli style – eat in or take out!

The Tides: A perennial favorite, one of the locations where the Birds was filmed. Eat in or take out from their fish market!

Rocker Oysterfellers in Valley Ford, CA

October 18th, 2009 | Category: Restaurants in Bodega Bay & the Sonoma Coast

Rocker Oysterfellers in Valley Ford, CA is just 15 minutes from “At the Bay’s Edge”, in between Petaluma and Bodega Bay in Valley Ford. It’s like an upscale saloon, and always a good time. Their food is both delicious and diverse….with (of course) oysters, clams and seafood playing a starring role, but they also have wonderful ribs, pulled pork, and jalapeno cornbread (not to be missed). I love living in Sonoma County….the food is just so delicious and diverse! Enjoy!

ARTrails in Sonoma County October 10-11 and October 17-18

October 9th, 2009 | Category: Local Activites and Events

Sonoma County’s ARTrails is this weekend and next in Sonoma County. ARTrails is an annual fall tradition in the North Bay. This juried program is not just Sonoma County’s largest and most visible arts event, but also one of the oldest and most respected of its kind in the nation. Stop into our studios and see why!

ARTrails provides a rare opportunity for the public to meet local artists in their workspaces, view original art, and learn firsthand about their diverse creative processes and techniques.

Through hands-on demonstrations as well as intimate conversations, ARTrails artists will take you into their world, where colors, shapes, materials, and textures merge into unique and collectible works of art.

Enjoy! Click here for Maps and Schedules for ARTrails.

White Pelicans – A Must-See For Your Bodega Bay Vacation!

October 5th, 2009 | Category: Videos, Wildlife in Bodega Bay

I know I’ve written about the White Pelicans here a lot….and with good reason, they’re so unique and beautiful to watch. I put together a collage of photos that I took and made a video to show you some of my best shots. I love watching them, they’re “dunkers” not divers like the brown pelicans. They glide swiftly across the water, and travel in large flocks, though they separate out to feed in smaller groups of 2-3. Anyway, enjoy the pictures and come see them for yourself!

Doran Beach in Bodega Bay

October 2nd, 2009 | Category: Local Activites and Events, Wildlife in Bodega Bay

Doran Beach is one of my favorites…for so many reasons. Here’s a picture from the south end of the beach, it’s at a medium tide so we couldn’t walk into the rocks. At lower tides it’s fun to explore all the nooks and crannies. But either way, it’s always beautiful. There are 2 miles of flat beach in a horseshoe shape. It’s very popular because it’s easy to access for surfers, kayakers, kiteflyers, horseback riding, walking, jogging, or just beachcombing.

BodegaBaySunsetWanted to share this beautiful sunset…this is the view from the deck “At the Bay’s Edge”. The sunsets this past week have just been spectacular….I’m really enjoying these fall sunsets!

I created an album on our At the Bay’s Edge Facebook Fan Page if you want to see some more of the sunset pictures….the winter ones are quite spectacular!

Bodega Head – Where Bodega Harbour Meets the Pacific

September 25th, 2009 | Category: Bodega Bay Activities

Just saw a great aerial photograph of Bodega Head that I wanted to share.

Bodega Head is just a 5 minute drive from “At the Bay’s Edge” and is named for the the rocky headland that forms the entrance into Bodega Harbor. The jetty along the harbour side is very popular for crabbing and clamming, and the ocean side is very popular for hiking and biking. It’s also a fun place to just enjoy the truly spectacular blufftop views. It’s a popular spot for watching the sunset, as well as the gray whales.
