Crab Season is Here!

November 13th, 2006 | Category: Blog

The Sport Crab Season opened last week and the commercial season opens on the 15th….I’m looking forward to nice fresh crab in the weeks to come!

There are several boats you can take out if you want to catch your own (check out our activities page for more information)….or several great local resources I can tell you about if you just want to pick some up off of the dock!

Many of our guests really enjoy cooking right here…and of course there are a wide range of local restaurants to choose from as well…so Bon Appetit!

Fort Ross

October 29th, 2006 | Category: Blog

I had company in town this weekend and one of the trips we took was to Fort Ross State Park — just 20 miles north of “At the Bay’s Edge” on Hwy 1. Fort Ross was an important part of California history during the 1800’s. The settlement of Ross was established in 1812 for trade to Russian outposts in Alaska.

Fort Ross was also the site of California’s first windmills and shipbuilding, and Russian scientists were among the first to record California’s cultural and natural history. Fort Ross was a successfully functioning multi-cultural settlement for some thirty years. The tour through the Visitor Center and a walking tour of the grounds proved to be a fun and informative outing!

Sandpipers by the house

The sandpipers were right in front of the house today at low tide….our guests spent the morning just watching them feed.

Safari West Revisited

September 28th, 2006 | Category: Blog

We just went to Safari West for my daughter’s birthday….and had a great time. This is a picture of Dahlila, a pet of the owners….an Indian Hornbill. She followed us around the entry grounds while we were checking in….she doesn’t fly, she hops around. And poses for photo opps!

Safari West is a 400 acre wildlife preserve, just an hour away from “At the Bay’s Edge”. It is a wildlife preserve where the animals roam free and the whole family can experience these animals in their natural habitat. They offer 3 hour safaris, several times a day, in an open air jeep. It’s wonderful and fascinating to see the animals in their own environment. Our guide was a naturalist, we learned a lot … it was both a fun and informative experience! Check out my previous posting on this great adventure!

Go For a Bike Ride!

September 14th, 2006 | Category: Blog

There are many areas in and around Bodega Bay and the Sonoma Coast to bicycle…one of our guests just spent the day out at Bodega Head and said they could see for miles and miles up and down the coast.

Here’s a good resource for bike rentals…or bring your own!

Charlie the Gull & Friends

September 4th, 2006 | Category: Blog

Charlie the Gull is a frequent visitor to “At the Bay’s Edge”…and he often brings his friends along to visit. All of our guests enjoy him….he squawks a lot and flies right in front of the windows so you always know which one is Charlie. A guest took these photos this weekend.

Local Color

For some local color and good all-around menu, check out the Sandpiper Restaurant…just 2 minutes from “At the Bay’s Edge.” I really like the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service.

Boats heading south

August 12th, 2006 | Category: Blog

Just starting to see boats anchoring out in the Bay that are heading south. Here’s a sailboat in front of “At the Bays Edge” that is from Canada…they stayed for three days and then kept going. Fun for me to watch who’s coming and going.

You can see Spud Point Marina in the background of this picture…where all the fishing boats are located.

River Otters are Back!

July 17th, 2006 | Category: Blog

The family of river otters is back, I haven’t seen them since last November! This family of 6 plays and feeds right in front of “At the Bay’s Edge” … so great to see them again.

Check my original posting for more otter pictures!
