The Tides Restaurant in Bodega Bay is still a perennial favorite. The Tides was featured in the original Hitchcock movie “The Birds“, and it is currently a popular restaurant, it has a retail seafood market (so you can buy your own seafood and cook it “At the Bay’s Edge, or eat there!) and has a fun gift store. Make sure and stop in when you’re visiting Bodega Bay!
I just had to order another copy of the Hitchcock classic “The Birds” for one of our rentals….it’s a perennial favorite with our guests and we go through a lot of copies!
Ran across this video of the Sonoma Coast and wanted to share it. All of these Bodega Bay beaches are just moments from “At the Bay’s Edge”….some dramatic, some calm, all wonderfully inspiring. Enjoy!
You wouldn’t think a general store would have great take out pizza, but we love pizza from Diekmann’s Grocery in Bodega Bay. They make all their pizzas from scratch with all fresh ingredients and you can really taste the difference. We’re not alone, their pizzas are wildly popular here in town. I love their garlic chicken and their vegetarian deluxe! Yum!
Diekmann’s Deli is just a short walk from “At the Bay’s Edge” and is actually an old-fashioned general / store and market. It has quite a rich history in Bodega Bay and carries everything from groceries, to fishing tackle, to camping supplies, beer, wine, deli sandwiches, firewood, and of course, fabulous pizza!
This ever popular seafood art and wine festival, is now in it’s 15th year! Featuring the best of California’s wineries, breweries, artists, and craftspeople. This event also features outstanding regional and national musicians, and of course, a delicious selection of seafood, a kid’s “funzone”, environmental exhibits, and other fun and new aspects of the festival make this an event not to be missed.
The Festival benefits the Bodega Volunteer Fire Department, and Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods. Enjoy!
I had company in town for a week….they live in Phoenix so when they come out to visit they love to eat fresh seafood. We went to the Tomales Bay Oyster Company, Hog Island Oyster Company, of course Tony’s Seafood for their BBQ’d oysters. We brought bags of oysters home each day, and ate some there as well. Whew! Always love oysters, but think I’ll take a break from them for awhile.
All three are located along the water in Tomales Bay on Highway 1, just 20 minutes from “At the Bay’s Edge”. It’s a scenic drive and a lot of fun to be in the beauty of Tomales Bay while enjoying great food and great friends!
Just discovered this wonderful audio tour of Petaluma! Petaluma is just 1/2 hour away from “At the Bay’s Edge”, and many travel through on their way to the coast. Petaluma is a wonderfully historical town full of Victorian mansions, antique shops, a downtown area that is along the river front, a theatre and opera house, and even a row of outlet stores just outside of downtown Petaluma! There’s something for everyone! Enjoy!
The annual Bodega Bay Fireworks show is scheduled for July 3, 2009 at dusk at Westfield Park. You can see the fireworks right from “At the Bay’s Edge”. It’s a smaller show, but always dramatic and a lot of fun….and a great way to celebrate the holiday.
Finally, the white pelicans are back…I’ve missed them! They usually swim in large groups in front of “At the Bay’s Edge” at low tide….they’re dunkers as opposed to divers like the brown pelicans. They’re also much bigger than the brown pelicans….takes them a bit longer to get airborne as well!
