Sonoma Marin Fair ~ June 23-27 2010

Was looking at the schedule for this year’s Sonoma Marin Fair and it’s jam packed full of activities. It runs June 23-27 at the Petaluma Fairgrounds and includes specific activities for Family Day, Farmers Day, Agriculture Day, Senior Day, Kids Day, and EveryOne’s Day.

And of course, the ever popular Ugly Dog Contest.

Their web site is very helpful, it includes videos, interviews, schedule, directions, you name it. Looking forward to it.

Petaluma is just 30 minutes from “At the Bay’s Edge” and many of our guests use our coastal retreat as a hub for other activities. So come to enjoy!

Freestone Vineyards – Tours and Guest Center

Freestone is just 10 minutes inland from Bodega Bay, right past the town of Bodega, and on the Bohemian Highway on the turnoff to Occidental.

The Freestone winery is situated in the midst of the vineyards. This three story building allows the force of gravity to transport the wine from the fermenters down to the barrels. The subterranean level is actually an ideal cellar environment where temperature and humidity are controlled naturally.

The Freestone Vineyards guest center is open Friday through Sunday from 11-5pm, and no reservations are required.

They also feature “Second Sunday” events that range from food pairings to music, so be sure and check their calendar.

Freestone is well known for their Pinot Noir and their Chardonnay. Make sure and include them in your travels, it’s a fun stop and an excellent wine. (And it’s about a block away from the Wildflour Bakery….my personal favorite!)

Salmon Creek Artwalk November 7-8, 2009

The Salmon Creek Artwalk is one of my favorites….as local and guest artists open their studios in Salmon Creek (just a mile north of Bodega Bay) to highlight a variety of art including sculpture, painting, wearable art, photography, stained glass, and copper.

The Salmon Creek Artwalk was established in 2001 and has become an anticipated Sonoma Coast art event. Take this opportunity to enjoy the artists work, and stroll through the unique town of Salmon Creek, and enjoy the Salmon Creek beach as well!

Safari West – A Must See for Your Bodega Bay Vacation!

Safari West is a 400 acre wildlife preserve, just an hour away from “At the Bay’s Edge”. It is a wildlife preserve where the animals roam free and the whole family can experience these animals in their natural habitat. They offer 3 hour safaris, several times a day, in an open air jeep. It’s wonderful and fascinating to see the animals in their own environment. Our guide was a naturalist, we learned a lot … it was both a fun and informative experience! Gravenstein Apple Fair in Sebastopol August 15, 2009

This country fair showcases the Gravenstein Apple and the experience of an old time country get together. Sonoma County farmers sell everything from apples and gourmet goodies to honey and miniature trees. Over 125 artisans display their arts and crafts. Sip Sonoma County wines, beers and ales and listen to toe tapping music. Learn from our guest chefs, visit the Children’s Corner or the Life on the Farm exhibits. Bring your family and friends for a wonderful time!

Olive Oil Tours in Sonoma County

The San Francisco Chronicle published a great article on Olive Oil Tasting Tours in Sonoma that I thought you would enjoy.

Sonoma County is well known for its California Extra Virgin Olive Oil and olive tapenades. It’s always fun to go olive oil tasting, and now the Sonoma Olive Festival is still in full swing through the end of February.

Here’s a previous post I did on the McEvoy Ranch Tours as well. That was a lot of fun!
