Bodega Bay Realty put together a great video montage of the birds at Doran Beach in Bodega Bay that I thought you would enjoy seeing.

I love walking over at Doran because there’s always an abundance of wildlife, including the gulls and sandpipers that you see here. Doran Beach is just a five minute drive from “At the Bay’s Edge” and is popular not only for bird watching, but as an access point for kayaking, boogie boarding, kite flying, beach combing, and of course, just hanging out!

Birding is one of the most popular activities in Bodega Bay, in fact the Madrone Audobon Society lists Bodega Bay as the best birding spot in Sonoma County. I love low tide here “At the Bay’s Edge” because I enjoy watching the heron and sandpipers hunt. It’s fascinating to watch the process of stalking, it’s quite intense.

Here’s a recent picture I took right from my deck.

We do have binoculars and birding books in both of our rentals for your convenience and enjoyment, so come watch the Birds in Bodega Bay!

Here’s a great overview article that I wanted to share with you….it highlights the birds you will see over at Gaffney Point, and along the mud flats in Bodega Bay.

Many of our guests are delighted to find out what a great area this is for birding….Madrone Audobon Society lists Bodega Bay as the best birding spot in Sonoma County, and this is just one region.

Of course, we offer binoculars for all of our guests, and you’ll see many birds from your vacation rental. Some of our most frequent guests are heron, seagull, cormorants, white pelicans, brown pelicans, and sandpipers.

I love watching the heron fishing in front of the house, and wanted to share some recent photos with you. Typically, they’re here during low tide, along with the sandpipers. I love their focus and intensity.

Many people are surprised to learn that Bodega Bay is one of the best birding spots in all of Sonoma County. Here’s the Madrone Audobon Society’s overview, by season, of Birding in Bodega Bay.

I wanted to share this great time lapse video of the wildlife in Bodega Bay. It looks like it was taken right by “At the Bay’s Edge” as this is the experience you will have when you stay here. You will enjoy seeing seals, cormorants, heron, seagulls, brown pelicans, white pelicans, and even rays.

Many people don’t realize that Bodega Bay is one of the best places in Sonoma County for bird watching.

Enjoying the Grebe’s Diving in Front of “At the Bay’s Edge”

Enjoying watching the grebe’s dive and fish in front of the house this morning! I’m so thankful to live on the water and share the experience with our guests!

Many of my guests are surprised to learn that Bodega Bay is one of the best birding spots in all of Sonoma County. Madrone Audubon organizes many birding trips to Bodega Bay, including Walkabouts, Field Trips and Beginners Bird Walks.

Our vacation rentals have binoculars in them, so come to enjoy the birds!

White Pelicans – A Must-See For Your Bodega Bay Vacation!

I know I’ve written about the White Pelicans here a lot….and with good reason, they’re so unique and beautiful to watch. I put together a collage of photos that I took and made a video to show you some of my best shots. I love watching them, they’re “dunkers” not divers like the brown pelicans. They glide swiftly across the water, and travel in large flocks, though they separate out to feed in smaller groups of 2-3. Anyway, enjoy the pictures and come see them for yourself!

Doran Beach in Bodega Bay

Doran Beach is one of my favorites…for so many reasons. Here’s a picture from the south end of the beach, it’s at a medium tide so we couldn’t walk into the rocks. At lower tides it’s fun to explore all the nooks and crannies. But either way, it’s always beautiful. There are 2 miles of flat beach in a horseshoe shape. It’s very popular because it’s easy to access for surfers, kayakers, kiteflyers, horseback riding, walking, jogging, or just beachcombing.

White Pelicans Are Back in Bodega Bay!

Finally, the white pelicans are back…I’ve missed them! They usually swim in large groups in front of “At the Bay’s Edge” at low tide….they’re dunkers as opposed to divers like the brown pelicans. They’re also much bigger than the brown pelicans….takes them a bit longer to get airborne as well!
